Lyme Bay is at the heart of 95 miles of Jurassic coastline stretching from East Devon to Dorset. This coastline was nominated as a world heritage site by UNESCO in 2001 & is the first and only natural world heritage site in England.
Lyme Regis is easily accessible by road, rail and air (Bournemouth, Bristol, and Exeter airports are nearby). Car ferries and catamaran services operate along the coast to the continent.
Stepping out of Cecilia’s Cottage and strolling into Coombe Street, just off Georges Square, there is an array of cafe’s restaurants and independent galleries. Take a look at the facilities of the Town Mill and Malthouse with its working mill and gift shop, 2 art galleries, an arts and crafts studio, pottery, micro-brewery, textile studio, cheesemonger, 2 restaurants and a 17th century walled garden.
The sea is short stroll away as is the famous Cobb, immortalised by famous local literary giant John Fowles. The church beach is sandy with rock pools and the northern part of the Town Beach by the Cobb has a very large area of soft golden sand recently imported from France. The exotic & award winning Lister and Langmoor gardens form the back-drop to the promenade with breathtaking views to the sea. The land is flat from the cottage to the sea making an easy walk for elderly, people with restricted mobility or prams.
Permit parking is complimentary with booking and is a short stroll away at the local Woodmead Car Park, Hill Road. Everywhere is accessible by foot in Lyme Regis, you’ll be happy to leave the car behind!
